Tried something new!! ...what a letdown.

Song of the Day: Flo Rida ft. T-Pain - Low  - (Gr)Apple (Bottom Jeans)...

There is a part of me that has opinions about genetically modified foods (parts that I agree with and parts that I don't), and how they should be labeled, and how consumers should know what is going into their foods.  I'm not going to get into detail, because there are people out there who may be better informed, or louder than me, but also, that's not what this blog entry is about.  This blog entry is about the other part of me.  The part that really wanted to eat a Grapple.

I could smell the Grapple before I saw it.  It smells like Grape Juice Concentrate on steroids, or actually, it smells like the grape scented Boogie Wipes I buy to get the crusty stuff of Caroline's nose.  I was walking through the apple section of our local grocery store, and there they were.  $4.99 for 4 grapples.  Of course, I had to buy them.  They smelled so good!  If I had to close my eyes and imagine what the grapple looked like, with just the smell, I would have pictured a Wonka-fied version of a grape.  Like how the blueberry girl didn't look like a blueberry, but a Wonka-fied blueberry.  Almost too blue, too large, too much still a human child.  Wait, back to the grapple.  I imagine a large grape, about the size of a small apple, but still soft to the touch.  Really, if these apples were also dyed to be bright purple, that would complete the picture.

I brought one with me for my afternoon snack yesterday.  I hadn't had anything else to eat in a while, so I was able to really experience just the flavor of the grapple.  Honestly, it tastes like an apple to me.  What a let down.  But, maybe it's because the visual stimuli of it looking like an apple, is stronger than the olfactory stimuli of it smelling like a grape.  This just comes back to the fact that the grapple should be purple and not red.

According to the Grapple website, they start with either Gala or Fuji apples depending on what is in season.  I like both of those kinds of apples, but the Grapple lacks the crunch that those apples deliver.  Maybe if I put them in the fridge they would be better.  Ugh, I don't know.  The smell alone lead me to hype up such an experience, and really it was kind of like eating a soft apple that smelled like intense grape candy.  Ugh, I don't know.  It's just so disappointing.

Bottom line: When faced with the choice of picking one of the many kinds of apples, just go with the Honeycrisp
